Here’s another one of my fashion insights. Albeit, I doubt I have any whatsoever (You can ready about the why of that here). And no! This post is not about how your clothes don’t matter, or how you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. I doubt I’ll ever write something on that topic, especially in a post whose title starts with - “Mens Fashion Rules…”.
It’s true that fashion is not style, and vice-a-versa. Style is something that you create using whatever fashion of wear that suits you. It’s not just your clothes! Going by that logic (appeals to mine), you need more than just clothes to communicate your style, or make a statement.
You’re More Than Just Your Clothes
Often we forget that there are little things that become a part of us, a part of our “style” - which is what influences our fashion wear, no matter the fashion trends. For e.g. I always carry a swiss knife with me. I got lucky, and it came free. But, it quickly became a part of my daily life. Same is true for a traditional accessory I’ve been wearing around my neck since school days (although I know for a fact I can’t call it that). It’s suppose to protect me from harm of all kind. It’s not meant to be a statement, or fashionable. It might offend a lot of people, might not offend a lot of people. The point is that it’s a part of me. It’s a part of who I am, and thus an extension of my style.
These little things add up to who you are, and what you’re trying to communicate with your style, without you even noticing them.
Finishing Touches
Apart from all those little things that become a part of your daily style, and without you knowing become a part of your choice of fashion wear; there’s even more that adds to your style - Finishing Touches.
Now, I know I am not a “fashionable” guy, or someone who would spend a $1000 on a leather jacket unless it brought some kind of value. I’m kinda frugal, and pragmatic that way. But this doesn’t mean that I don’t have my own style, or don’t like to keep an eye on mens fashion trends. I do keep myself updated with the in & outs of mens fashion. Especially with fashion trends, and new styles that appeal to my set of rules. So, while searching about on the internet on what’s in, and what’s not in the men’s fashion world, I stumbled on this little infographic embedded on someone else’s blog post.
The infographic is about “Finishing Touches”. It’s about how all those Men’s style guides, almost always, focus on the clothes. Then the infographic suggests that there’s more to a man’s style then just his clothes. I completely agree with that point, which is now made into this post. In-fact, that one point in the infographic 1 is the reason for this post.
