I have no expectations of most kinds, when I am off to somewhere, to do whatever. Well, except for one that involves discovery, and exploration of places traveled to, expectations of self-discovery and, of finding good tea; I cannot go without my cup of tea; nasty habits, and all. Singapore was no exception to any of these and, it did not disappoint.
Free Candies For The Crew: An Experiment.
While waiting in the lounge to board the plane, I decided to pick up some candies for the flight crew; having read that if you offered them sweets, just like that, then they’d be happy, and may very well upgrade you to business or first class. Though the upgrade is not guaranteed, and the crew could decide not to accept the sweet offerings. I did some research before doing this. Reddit, as the source for finding other people’s experiences with doing something like this, was sufficient enough. I came across a lot of opinions, and stories. Some people considered this as a safety threat to the crew, some others wanted to do this still, and some others had done this, and had gotten upgrades , etc.
I thought why not? If safety was a concern, then buying a sealed pack of candies from the duty free, after the security checks would take care of that. And, it would be a good deed to do; I wasn’t expecting anything in return. I just wanted to observe, and to experience what happens if I did something like that.
So I picked up a pack of sealed candies from the duty free shop, and handed them over to the host as soon as I entered the plane. They (there were two of them) inquired about the occasion, and I shrugged; letting them know that there was none, and I just thought it did be something good. One of them inquired about my seat (more inquisitively than what was inquired from the passengers, those that were ahead of me in the queue), and I responded, letting both know where I was seated.
During the course of this flight, I noticed that the entire crew was a little more responsive to my (our) requests. I slept, and woke up about fourty minutes before landing into Singapore. Just before the aircraft started its descent, two from the crew approached my seat. They thanked me for the candies, and handed me a bag of goodies. It was exciting! It felt like Christmas; it had come early, with all the give, and take. I did not want to open the bag up then, and there, and decided to open it up when we all had checked into our hotel. And, that’s what I did.
The bag of goodies had two travel packs, a jogging pant in my size, and an awesome v-neck, full sleeve tee. And, I have to say the tee looks good on me :P
The bag from the crew contained these goodies: 2 travel packs, one pajamas, and one v-neck, full sleeved tee (to go with those pajamas).

The Asanoya Bakery, Breakfast & Drizzles
It was early morning, when we finally got out of the airport, having finished with the formalities. We were all tired, and hungry. We got into a cab, and within the next 10 minutes we found ourselves outside the hotel, which is located at Queen St.
The hotel’s check-in time was still some couple of hours away. We had booked two rooms, and the hotel manager was kind enough to afford us one room to check into for the time being, leave our luggage, shower, and then head out to find some grub.
I opted to take a shower later, after I had had some tea, and instead headed down to wait for the others to arrive. I sat outside the hotel, on the curb, to have a smoke. The weather was hot, and humid. The skies were gray, and it had started to rain.
And, as soon as it had started raining, a ton of umbrellas on the street opened up. After about five minutes, Queen St. was empty, with the exception of guests checking into our, and another hotel across the street. It was empty. I liked it. Sitting there under a sprinkle of a rain shower, on an empty street in the morning, in yet another foreign land. It felt great. The air was certainly cleaner than what we’re used to back in India.
Soon enough, one by one, the others came out of the hotel, and we were now searching for a place close to the hotel that would cater to some good breakfast. I needed tea.
One of us, noticed a place right across the street from the hotel. And, we all decided to check it out. One of the best decisions we made there, if I may.
Asanoya Bakery is a Japanese “fusion food” bakery. And, it does not dissappoint. Everything I ate there, was simple, affordable, and good. The bakery is a stone throw away from the hotel we’re staying at (more on the hotel experience in the next series of posts). Asanoya had some excellent choices for tea too, but not what I was after - Tea with milk (Teh with Cream, as they call it in Singapore).
Asanoya Bakery, Singapore: A great place for an affordable, quick meal or breakfast. It definitely won't disappoint.
My recommendations for Asanoya Bakery would be the Burger, A bacon, cheese and onion stuffed bread offering (forgot what it was called) that was remarkably delectable, the various Macha stuffed combo-croissants, curry donuts, soups, and while I am it — anything, and everything is good game here.

Another thing that I wasn’t aware of, is that there are two other locations in Singapore where Asanoya Bakery can be found at.

Singapore Travels: A Series Of Posts.
There was just so much to do in Singapore, such wonderful experiences, and there’s just so much to write about, and recommend that I think it only makes sense to break it all into a series of posts. The next part of Singapore Travels series is coming soon.
